PARIS/BERLIN (NNA) – Large numbers of people across Europe have gone online to declare their solidarity with the victims of the Paris attacks.

So far almost 170,000 people have signed the online declaration of solidarity launched on Sunday by the German civil society campaigning organisation “campact”, partnered in Europe with “38 Degrees” in the UK and “Uplift” in Ireland among others, with the aim of reaching 200,000 signatures. The declaration will be published in the French newspaper Le Monde in the next few days.

“We, people from the whole of Europe, are schocked, horrified and deeply saddened following the attacks in Paris. Our heartfelt sympathy and thoughts are with those who have lost family members or friends,” the declaration says.

Solidarity with all victims of terror

The signatories also express their solidarity with all victims of terror throughout the world, be it in Ankara, Beirut, Syria or Iraq, as well as with the many refugees who have been forced to leave their homeland to escape terror. “Today we stand together for peace, for Liberte, Egalite, Fraternite,” the declaration adds.

In the social networks, too, people have declared their solidarity with France. On Twitter, messages of support are being sent with the hashtags including “Pray for Paris”, “Nous sommes Paris”, “Nous sommes unis” or “We stand for Paris”.

In another gesture, ever new versions of what has become the international peace symbol are being sent out with the Eiffel Tower as the middle part.
